The www.wymondham-station.com website is operated by Wymondham Station Adopters and not by Greater Anglia or East Midlands Trains. Information and links are shown for the benefit both of customers using the businesses based at the station and travellers using the train services calling there.

After a gap of almost 40 years when the station was unmanned, a new ticket office was officially opened at Wymondham Historic Railway Station on an experimental basis on Friday 4th November 2005, with the ceremony covered by Anglia Television News and local newspapers. The experiment was very successful and, as well as continuing on a permanent basis and winning a coveted National Rail Award, the initiative then prompted a further reopening at neighbouring Attleborough station.

Unfortunately, in April 2011, former operator National Express East Anglia withdrew staffing from Wymondham once again - following their failure to be shortlisted for the then forthcoming new rail franchise. They appeared unwilling to come to any arrangement with the new tenants of the station building over their continued occupation of part of the premises, and so the former ticket office reverted to use by the Station Bistro. The station is now operated by Abellio Greater Anglia.

However, on this page, and in our Updates section, we hope that you'll find much of the information that you need to know when planning a trip to or from Wymondham Station.

As well as information, you can also book your advance tickets from this site, using the link on the right hand side of this page, although for many journeys from Wymondham, you'll pay exactly the same fare if you just buy your ticket from the Conductor on the day of travel. More details are shown below.

Wymondham is served by hourly Abellio Greater Anglia trains on the Norwich to Cambridge route, with some additional services at peak times. Connections are available at Cambridge with Greater Anglia services to Liverpool Street, First Capital Connect trains to Kings Cross and Cross Country Trains (and a limited number of Greater Anglia ones) direct to Stansted Airport. Change at Ely for connections to Kings Lynn, March, Peterborough and East Midlands Trains and Cross Country Trains services to the Midlands and North West. Connections can be made at Norwich with Abellio Greater Anglia local services to Great Yarmouth, Lowestoft and Sheringham as well as with mainline services to Diss, Stowmarket, Ipswich, Colchester and London Liverpool Street.

All walk-on fares are available from the Conductor when you board the train at Wymondham, and you'll get your normal discount if you hold a valid national railcard.

What about booking tickets in advance?

If you can book well in advance and are able to specify your exact train times both ways, you may be able to obtain a cheaper ticket. From Wymondham, such tickets are available to London via Norwich or Cambridge - but via Cambridge these Advance Tickets are valid only on Greater Anglia trains to and from Liverpool Street and not on trains to and from Kings Cross operated by First Capital Connect. To get the cheapest fares, always travel outside rush hours and preferably midweek rather than at weekends and ensure that you stick to the trains that you have booked on. You can book on-line right now by clicking the Trainline advertisement below.

Remember, if you're travelling from Wymondham to London Kings Cross via Cambridge, or for local journeys to Cambridge, Peterborough, Norwich, Sheringham, Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft, there are no Advance Fares, so just buy your ticket on the day of travel from the Conductor on the train.

Please note that you cannot collect pre-booked tickets at Wymondham - you should allow at least 5 days for tickets to be posted out to you from The Trainline. It is possible to collect such tickets from the self-service machines at Norwich Station - you need to specify this as your chosen collection point when making your booking. If you do intend to collect at Norwich, please ensure you have with you the 8 character (letters & numbers) reference number generated and the same payment card you used when booking.
